How to Create a New WordPress User

Need some help designing your site, but don't want to give away your login information?  You can create multiple users right from your WordPress Dashboard!  Here is how:

      1. Login to your site's How to Login to Your WordPress Dashboard.

      2. Locate the Users option on the left hand toolbar, and select the Add New option from the submenu.

      1. The Add New User form will then appear for you to fill out and complete:

        • A. Enter the username you wish to use for the new user.  It is encouraged to not use something generic like 'admin' as the username for security purposes.

        • B. Enter the email address this information will be sent to.

        • C. Enter the first name of the user.  This field is optional.

        • D. Enter the last name of the user.  This field is optional.

        • E. Enter the name of the website.  This field is optional.

        • F. Create a Login Password.  There is no strength requirement, but a strong password is always encouraged.

        • G. Check the  box to send the password information to the new user's email address.

        • H. Select the dropdown menu to view which role you with to assign the user.  Each role has slightly permissions.  The most common are Administrator, Editor, and Author.  Below is a breakdown of some permissions:

      • 1 - Administrator: User has access to all of the admin features within your WordPress site.

      • 2 - Editor: User can publish and manage any posts on your site.  Both posts they've created, and posts other have created.

      • 3 - Author: User is able to create and manage their own posts, and ONLY their own posts.

      • 4 - Contributor: User can write up and edit their own posts, and save them as drafts.  They cannot publish any content online though.

      • 5 - Subscriber: User can only manage their own individual profile, and has read only access to the contents of the site.

      1. Once you have completed the form, select the Add New User button to save the changes.   You will then be taken to the main Users page where you will be able to view, and edit your account users in the future.
