How to Password Protect a Folder in cPanel

With security being so important, cPanel gives you another tool to create a password protected directory!  This will allow a user to create a username and password that must be entered in prior to viewing the content of that directory.  It's such a useful tool, and it is so simple to setup!

      1. Login to your cPanel account.

      2. From the cPanel, scroll down until you find the 'Security' section, then select the Password Protect Directories button.

      1. Once selected, a small popup window will appear asking what directory you would like to open. Once you have the folder selected to start from, press the Go button to continue.

      1. You will then be taken to another window where you can choose the folder you are interested in password protecting.  In this example, I'm going to protect the 'wp-admin' folder, which will make it so I need to enter a username and password before being taken to my WordPress login screen.

      1. Once selected, you will be taken to a screen where you will first need to select the check box to password protect this directory, then give the directory a name.  You need to 'Save' those settings first, then below, you will be able to create a username and password to set that will be required to to view the folder you are protecting.  Just hit the Add or Modify the Authorized User button when it has been added to save the changed.

      1. Once it has been set, go to the page on your site, such as thetikisurfshop.com/wp-admin and before seeing the page, you will see this popup window first asking you to enter the username and password you set to proceed.
